Rural tourism, as a significant tool for the economic, social, and cultural development of rural areas, requires sustainable planning and optimal utilization of natural, cultural, and historical capacities. Liqvan Village, located in East Azerbaijan Province, possesses notable potential for tourism development due to its natural landscapes, hot and cold springs, biodiversity, historical heritage, and distinctive local products such as Liqvan cheese. However, a systematic assessment of sustainable tourism in the village has not been conducted previously. This study employed sustainable tourism development indicators and the Delphi method to evaluate the village's tourism status across five dimensions: tourism potential, service quality, facilities, management system, and development impacts, using 32 indicators. Data were collected from 20 local experts and analyzed using a five-point Likert scale. Results indicated that natural and economic potentials scored highest, while infrastructure and management were comparatively weak. The findings emphasize the need to strengthen destination management, enhance services, develop infrastructure, and raise local awareness to achieve sustainable tourism. The present study, by providing a comprehensive set of evaluation indicators, can serve as a strategic tool for planning and guiding the sustainable development of tourism in Liqvan Village.
